Old money white outfits have a reputation for being fussy, reserved for yacht clubs and people who never spill their coffee. I think that reputation is wrong, and this list is my case against it.
White is the most honest color in a wardrobe: it shows the fabric, the cut and the fit with nothing to hide behind, which is exactly why a good white piece looks expensive.
So I built these 15 all white outfit ideas to cover the full calendar. Linen and eyelet handle the heat, and once the cold sets in, winter white old money outfits take over in cashmere, ivory suiting and camel hair.
If you’ve ever worried that white will wash you out or look like a uniform, I’ve written about making all-white feel anything but boring, and the looks below put those ideas to work.
Every outfit here is complete and shoppable, from the shoes up.
1. White Linen Suit + Ribbed Tank + Tan Crossover Sandals

Shop the Look
100% European Linen Structured Blazer (White)
$90.00 | Cotton lining gives this linen blazer a tailored line that most linen jackets lose by noon; pick White on the color selector.
100% European Linen Pants (White)
$42.00 | Same European linen, same White as the blazer, so the suit genuinely matches.
Bra-Free Rib Scoop Neck Tank (White)
$25 | Built-in support means no straps peeking out from under an open jacket.
The Day Crossover Sandal (Sienna Brown)
$98 | Sienna brown leather supplies the one warm accent this whole outfit needs.
A matching linen blazer and trouser cut from the same White is what turns two separates into an actual suit. Near-whites from different brands rarely agree in daylight, so buying both halves together solves the problem before it starts.
The close-fitting ribbed tank keeps the middle layer flat, and the sienna sandals are the only warm note in the look, which is exactly why the white reads so clean beside them.
Styling tip: wear the blazer open and push the sleeves up once to the forearm, because a fully buttoned white linen suit at a lunch table starts to look like wedding attire.
2. White Slim-Bootcut Jeans + Navy Cable Knit + Penny Loafers

Shop the Look
100% Cotton Cable Crewneck Sweater (Navy)
$74.50 | Nearly 700 reviews and a 4.7-star average back up this chunky all-cotton cable; Navy is a swatch on the same page.
New Winona Penny Loafers in Italian Spazzolato Leather (Cocoa Berry)
$118.80 | Brushed Italian spazzolato leather in Cocoa Berry looks softer than black against white denim.
Bella Slim Boot 33″ Jeans (White)
$179.25 | Mid-rise, slim through the thigh and a long 33-inch length that gives the hem room to break over a shoe.
Navy and white is the oldest pairing in this whole aesthetic, and a chunky cotton cable is how I wear it on a cool Saturday morning.
The slight flare of a slim bootcut does real work here: it balances the bulk of the knit so the proportions never go boxy, and the hem falls neatly over a loafer. If you want more denim shapes that pass the same test, my breakdown of old money jeans goes through the cuts one by one.
Styling tip: tuck just the front few inches of the sweater into the waistband, which shows off the rise and stops a thick knit from swallowing your hips.
3. Ivory Rib Knit Polo + Sweater-Knit Wide-Leg Pants

Shop the Look
Ivory Olivia Rib Knit Polo
$98 | Rib knit with a proper collar, offered from XXS all the way up to XXXL.
Snuggle Up Sweater High-Waist Wide Leg Pant (Ivory)
$198 | Sweater-knit softness with a high waist and a wide leg, so it drapes instead of clinging on a long train ride.
A travel day calls for comfort that doesn’t look like comfort, and a tonal ivory knit pairing does exactly that.
The polo collar is the trick. It puts a structured line near the face, so the soft, high-waisted wide-leg pant below reads as intentional rather than loungewear.
Styling tip: keep everything between the top and the pants in the same ivory family, because a bright white belt or bag breaks the column and makes the set look like two different outfits.
4. Ivory Pleated Trousers + Camel Cashmere Turtleneck + Camel Hair Coat

Shop the Look
The Pleats For Days Pant (Ivory)
$268 | High-waisted and pleated in ivory suiting, the winter-white trouser this entire look is built around.
Cashmere Sweater | Turtleneck (31 Beige)
$99.90 | Real cashmere under $100, and fine enough to tuck cleanly into pleated trousers.
Camel Hair Double-Breasted Long Wrap Coat (Vicuna)
$350 | Undyed camel hair in a warm caramel-brown: the investment piece of the look, and it earns that title.
Winter white trousers are the piece that makes people look twice in November, mostly because so few people wear them.
Pleats at a high waist give the leg volume that falls straight, and a fine-gauge cashmere turtleneck tucks in without adding bulk. The long camel hair coat then frames the whole column in one warm color.
Styling tip: keep the turtleneck and the coat as close in tone as you can, since two camels that agree make the ivory trousers look like the deliberate choice they are.
5. Ivory Cashmere Fisherman Sweater + White Press-Crease Trousers

Shop the Look
Cashmere Fisherman Sweater (Ivory)
$395 | Cashmere in a proper fisherman cable is the splurge of this lineup, and chunky enough to carry the whole outfit.
Press-Crease Cotton Trousers (White)
$139 | Sharp press creases on a wide cotton-twill leg keep the look crisp from hip to hem.
Italian Leather Cap-Toe Ballet Flat (Bone/Black)
$82.00 | Bone Italian leather with a black cap toe, a classic detail for under $100.
Cream on white only works when the textures are different enough to tell apart, and a chunky cable against smooth cotton twill is about as different as it gets.
The press crease down each wide leg adds a sharp vertical line, which keeps an oversized sweater from making the whole outfit look soft and shapeless.
This is my favorite Sunday outfit on the list, the one I’d wear to a family lunch and still feel dressed.
Styling tip: don’t underestimate the black toe cap on the flats, because that small dark point at the floor gives a pale outfit something to anchor on.
6. White Linen Shirt Dress + Braided Leather Belt + Chocolate Slingbacks

Shop the Look
100% European Linen Button Front Dress (White)
$64.00 | Full button front, a real collar and a midi length, all in European linen for $64.
Josie European Leather Braided Belt (Saddle)
$50.00 | Hand-braided leather in Saddle, a true cognac; select Saddle once the page opens.
Odette Slingback Shoes (Rich Chocolate Patent)
View at Sam Edelman (via Zappos)
$106.72 | Pointed toe, glossy croc-embossed finish in deep brown, and currently marked down from $165.
A collared button-front dress is basically a white shirt that has done all the work for you. Linen gives it a slightly relaxed hand, so it suits a summer desk and a garden party equally well.
The cognac braided belt is the mechanic: it marks the waist and breaks a long stretch of white into two proportions, which is what makes a shirt dress look tailored rather than borrowed.
Styling tip: fasten the belt one notch looser than feels natural so the linen blouses gently over it instead of pulling across the buttons.
7. Oversized White Shirt + Off-White Slip Skirt + Black Loafers

Shop the Look
Oversized Cotton Shirt (00 White)
$39.90 | Crisp 100% cotton with a dropped shoulder gets you the men’s-cut shape for under $40.
alice + olivia Maeve Mid-Length Slip Skirt (Off White)
$259 | Off-white and mid-length, it’s the soft, fluid counterpoint to all that shirting.
New Winona Penny Loafers in Italian Spazzolato Leather (Black)
$118.80 | Outfit 2’s penny loafer again, this time in black to frame the white from below.
Small Easy Tote (Black)
$278 | Small, simple and black, this tote gives the look its one dark weight at hip level.
The whole appeal here is contrast in shape. A roomy, dropped-shoulder cotton shirt sits over a slim, liquid slip skirt, and the two textures keep an all-white outfit from going flat.
Black loafers and a black tote act as the full stop at either end, which makes the white look brighter by comparison.
Styling tip: half-tuck the shirt at the front and roll the cuffs twice, since a fully untucked oversized shirt over a slip skirt starts to read like a nightgown.
8. Ivory Cashmere Wrap Coat + White Stovepipe Jeans + Brown Suede Boots

Shop the Look
100% Mongolian Cashmere Double-Faced Wrap Coat (Ivory Coast)
$500.00 | Double-faced Mongolian cashmere, unlined and hand-finished, in a warm winter white at a fraction of designer pricing.
Pilcro Isla Clean-Waist Mid-Rise Stovepipe Jeans (Snow White)
$89.95 | Currently on sale, this straight stovepipe jean in Snow White is worth grabbing while your size is still in stock.
Jones Ankle Boot (Chocolate Brown Suede)
$129.95 | Chocolate suede on a chunky lug sole gives a pale look some weight at the ground.
The boldest move on this list is winter white outerwear, and a belted wrap cut makes it far easier to pull off than a straight coat.
The belt pulls the waist in so a long pale coat never turns into a tent of fabric, while white stovepipe jeans underneath keep the whole length reading as one clean line.
Styling tip: choose chocolate suede over black at the ankle, because a brown lug-sole boot softens the contrast and keeps a white-on-white commute from looking stark.
9. Bone Satin Column Skirt + Oatmeal Cashmere Crewneck + Pointed Flats

Shop the Look
Satin Bias Column Skirt (Bona)
$428 | Vince’s bias-cut satin in Bona, a bone white, falls long enough to graze the floor.
Mongolian Cashmere Crewneck Sweater (Oatmeal)
$50.00 | Grade-A Mongolian cashmere for $50, in the warm neutral that stops satin from looking like a wedding look.
Point Flexi Sole Flats (Black Tumble Leather)
$96 | Black tumbled leather with a pointed toe, now marked down to $96.
A floor-length satin skirt sounds formal until you put a soft crewneck over it. Then it becomes the most comfortable way I know to dress up for dinner at home.
The bias cut lets the satin skim rather than cling, and the oatmeal cashmere warms up the bone so the pairing never tips into bridal.
Styling tip: skip the heel, because a flat pointed toe showing under a long hem looks relaxed, and that ease is what separates old money from trying too hard.
10. Ecru Double-Pleat Trousers + Navy Double-Breasted Blazer + Suede Loafers

Shop the Look
TOTEME Double-Pleat Straight Trousers (Ecru)
$338 | TOTEME’s double-pleat straight trouser in ecru, a warmer white that’s easier to wear all day.
Katharine Double-Breasted Blazer (Navy)
$475 | This double-breasted navy blazer anchors the whole look and runs in sizes 0 to 14.
Nya Penny Loafers (Bitter Chocolate Suede)
$190 | Bitter chocolate suede feels warmer and less formal than black leather next to navy.
A business lunch is where navy over white earns its reputation, and ecru trousers make the pairing feel a touch softer than optic white would.
A double-pleat straight leg gives you room to move while the pleats hold a sharp front line, which balances the structure of a double-breasted jacket up top.
Styling tip: keep the blazer buttoned when you stand, because a double-breasted cut only shows its shape closed.
11. White Eyelet Midi Dress + Raffia Tote + Tan Sandals

Shop the Look
100% Organic Cotton Eyelet Smocked Midi Dress (White)
$79.90 | All-over organic cotton eyelet with a smocked bodice; choose White, since the link opens on Navy.
Raffia Brett Tote
$142 | Natural raffia is the easiest partner for white cotton on a hot afternoon.
Asymmetric Sandal (Tan/Gold)
$50.99 | Tan leather with a little gold hardware, marked down to about $51 right now.
Eyelet is white with texture built in, which is why a single dress can carry a garden party or a christening with almost no help.
The smocked bodice fits close and the tiered midi skirt swings out, so the proportion does the flattering rather than the accessories.
Styling tip: keep everything else natural, since raffia and tan leather let the eyelet stay the focal point while a bright bag or colored shoe would split the attention.
12. White Button-Down + Stone Utility Pants + Bone Cardigan

Shop the Look
Donna Button-Down Shirt (White)
$195 | Tucked into a straight trouser, this classic white button-down looks sharp in sizes 0 to 14.
The Cozy Rib Cardigan (Bone)
$35 | Organic cotton rib in Bone, a soft cream that layers over white without washing out, for $35.
The Utility Patch Pocket Pant (Peyote)
$38 | Everlane’s straight, full-length cotton utility pant in Peyote does a chino’s job for $38.
Here’s the school-run version of old money: a crisp white shirt, practical straight trousers and a soft knit you can peel off in the car.
A khaki-stone trouser gives the white shirt and bone cardigan something to stand out against, which is the difference between a tonal outfit and a washed-out one. For more ways to lean on the same shirt, I’ve collected a dozen ways to style a white button-down.
Styling tip: leave the cardigan open and let the shirt collar sit over its V-neck, because that collar is what makes a cotton cardigan look polished.
13. White Linen Wide-Leg Pants + Open Chambray Shirt + Striped Espadrilles

Shop the Look
Linen Pants (White)
$85 | High-rise white linen with a wide leg that moves like a palazzo, for $85.
Tried & True Chambray Classic Shirt (Mid Wash)
$148 | Mid-wash chambray, faded just enough to look like a shirt you’ve owned for years.
The Original Espadrille – Woven Stripe, Classic (Ivory/Black)
$78.95 | Handmade in Spain with a jute sole and a fine black stripe on ivory canvas.
Washed chambray is the most relaxed partner white linen can have, and it keeps an all-white summer look from feeling precious.
Worn open over a white tank, the shirt adds a strip of blue down the front that draws the eye up and lengthens those wide trousers. Linen will crease, of course, and my guide to wearing linen without wrinkles covers how to keep that looking intentional.
Styling tip: roll the chambray sleeves to just below the elbow so the shirt looks worn by choice rather than grabbed for warmth.
14. Ivory Ribbed Sweater Dress + Olive Shearling-Collar Jacket + Knee Boots

Shop the Look
Ivory Callum Sweater Dress
$198 | Ribbed ivory knit in a midi length, with a button front that feels more polished than a plain sweater dress.
Deesha Knee High Boot (Chocolate Bar Leather)
$290 | Offered in narrow through extra-wide calf, these chocolate leather boots are easy to get the fit right on.
Wool-Blend Jacket with Detachable Shearling Collar (Khaki, olive)
$89.99 | Olive wool-blend with a detachable cream shearling collar, and 40% off at the moment.
A ribbed ivory knit dress is the winter answer to a white summer dress, warm enough for holiday drinks at a neighbor’s house and still unmistakably light.
The ribbing draws long vertical lines down the body, and the cropped jacket stops high enough not to hide them. Olive and chocolate brown then give the ivory two earthy partners instead of one.
Styling tip: let the boot shafts disappear under the midi hem, since no gap of bare leg keeps a knit dress looking warm and pulled together.
15. White Shirt + Navy Crewneck + Off-White Straight Jeans + Brown Knee Boots

Shop the Look
Tomboy Shirt (White)
$110 | Organic cotton, a straight cut and a classic collar made for peeking out from under a sweater.
Cashmere Rolled-Hem Crewneck Sweater (Navy)
$148 | Navy cashmere with a rolled hem that sits neatly over a shirttail.
Porter Knee High Boot (Spiced Pecan Leather)
$200 | Warm Spiced Pecan leather with a low block heel for long afternoons on your feet.
90’s Mid Rise Straight 32″ Jeans (Marshmallow)
$228 | AGOLDE’s ’90s straight jean in Marshmallow, a soft off-white that sits kinder beside brown leather than optic white does.
This is what I’d wear to a horse show or a country fair: a white collar and cuffs showing from under navy cashmere, with soft off-white denim below.
The layered shirt is the mechanic. Those few inches of crisp white at the neck and wrists echo the jeans, so the navy sweater sits framed between two whites instead of splitting the outfit in half.
Styling tip: fold the sweater cuffs back once so the shirt cuffs show, because without that flash of white at the wrist the look reads as navy and denim rather than a white outfit.

Shop the BlueprintWhy White Clothes Slowly Turn Grey or Yellow (and the Laundry Habits That Stop It)
Most white clothes aren’t ruined by one dramatic stain. They drift toward grey or yellow one wash at a time, and the causes are almost always the same three habits.
The first is too much detergent. Residue that never fully rinses out holds on to dirt and body oils, and that’s what gives a white collar its dingy cast.
The second is mixed loads. Pale grey knits and light denim shed a little dye every wash, so white fabric slowly picks it up unless whites only ever go in with whites.
The third is heat. A hot dryer can set faint sweat or deodorant marks into permanent yellow, so treat underarms before washing and let white knits and linen air-dry.
Wool and cashmere are their own category: never use chlorine bleach on them, since it yellows and weakens animal fibers, and follow the care label instead.
If you buy only one thing from this list, make it a pair of white trousers or white jeans. Some version of one or the other appears in more than half of these outfits.
They work with the navy, camel and brown you probably already own, so start there, wear them often, and let the rest of your whites build around them.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is white, ivory or cream better for old money outfits?
All three belong. Crisp white suits cotton and linen in summer, while ivory and cream look richer in knits and wool once it’s cold. Keep to one family per outfit, or mix them on purpose through clearly different textures, like the cable-against-twill pairing in look 5.
Can you wear white after Labor Day?
Yes, and the old rule never applied to winter white anyway. Swap linen and eyelet for cashmere, suiting and heavier denim, then pair them with camel or brown leather so they feel seasonal.
How do I keep an all-white outfit from looking washed out?
Add one grounding accent in a warmer or darker color, such as cognac leather, a navy knit or black loafers. Every look on this list has at least one, and that single anchor is what makes the white look deliberate.
What shoes go best with old money white outfits?
Brown leather is the safest choice year-round, and loafers, sandals and knee boots in brown all show up here. Black works when you want sharper contrast, like the loafers in look 7 or the flats in look 9.
